Philippe Beck à l’European Graduate School [VIDà‰O]

mardi 1er septembre 2009, Philippe Beck

Critic and essayist Judith Balso introducing the poet Philippe Beck, one of Frances most well known, young poets to the students and faculty of the European Graduate School in Saas-Fee, Switzerland. In her introduction of Beck, Balso discussed Hegels concept of poetry that it must, and does, lead us to another sphere, a sphere of sensitive forms and images, which in turn have analogy with the proper object. She furthered the discussion by mentioning Wallace Stevens who said that poetry was analogy. Both Balso and Beck emphasized the importance of a public reading of poetry ; to read a poem, according to Beck, is to continue searching (recherche) ; he writes imagining the interlocutor to come. Poetry, for Beck, is a trajectory, and works both as a geography and a history of thought. Public open lecture for the students and faculty of the European Graduate School EGS Media and Communication Studies department program Saas-Fee, Switzerland 2009.
